CAMP & COMMUNITY SCHOOL
Welcome To Maranatha Beach Camp
...where the sea meets the river
Maranatha Beach Camp is located 2 hours east of Accra in the small town of Ada-Foah. We are on the Volta estuary in the small fishing community of Kewunor
Our camp is situated just metres from the sea on the banks of the Volta river. We have 30 rustic huts containing single or double beds with mosquito nets. We also have dorm rooms available for larger groups.
When you have arrived at the camp you can sit back and relax with a beer or soda, enjoy a meal at our restaurant which serves a variety of freshly cooked local food or take a swim in the Volta river which is clean and free of strong currents (we also have trained lifeguards on duty if you prefer a swim in the sea)
On Saturday nights you will find a bonfire and dancing, during the week it is quieter but there are board games to play or we sometimes show a movie at our restaurant.
If you prefer to explore we can arrange boat trips, excursions to the local markets and community tours around our village. Come between November and January and you may be lucky to see one of the 5 species of turtle who come visit us every year to lay their eggs on our beach.
If you want to stay longer you can take part in our volunteer programme. We have a variety of opportunities for you to help, either in our school or the local community.

Take one village in a utopian setting; add a local enthusiast who wants to help his community; get 13 amazing locals to volunteer for room and board at most. Add... read more a number of bamboo huts, good food and great company in those volunteers, and you have the perfect makings of a great place to stay. All profits are put into the local school so kids no longer have to walk for 2 hours each way to study. The views are magical. The swimming divine. Go for it! The luxury is in the setting and the people.
December 24, 2015This Beach Camp is situated right between the calm Volta River and the wavy and more unsettled sea. So nomatter wich kind of swiming you like, you can find it... read more here. The huts are made of palm leafs and toilets are very basic, but that is also part of the charm of this place. The sorroundings are beatiful. Lots of palm trees, sand, kids from the village fishing and playing. Food is great and very local, though the waiting time is a bit long (as everywhere else in Ghana)
The crew working there is very helpfull and always up for a chat. All in all you get a charming and basic, very authentic Ghanian little piece of paradise. Very recommendable!

I went this summer with my friends and the place was so nice. The huts make a welcoming environment, the food was so good and it's the perfect place to... read more relax. Also there is some music to enjoy at the bar, or you can play volleyball or even swim. We'll come back for sure.
September 24, 2018I came here to spend most of my weekend in the last 4 months. The crew is super friendly and feels like family now.
The food is very tasty... read more and cheap compared to other beach places. Make sure you order on time because it takes a while to prepare the food.
The huts are super cheap (15 cedi a night) and very basic but why do you need a expensive room with private shower and a king size bed if you can swim in the river AND the ocean and you can party all night around the bonfire.
Please make sure you visit the community. This is where a part of their profit goes to to fund schools.
The future of maranatha beach camp is very insecure because investors are trying to build a luxurious resort here. This will result in unemployment of the whole crew and a really bad future perspective for the whole community.
Come and enjoy this lovely beach and become part of the maranatha family!

A gem, the Maranatha Beach resort is tucked away far from all other resorts in Ada Foah. As its beach boasts a pristine and serene atmosphere, this place is an... read more excellent way to blow off some steam from the fast-paced Accra. There is little access to electricity in the area, so the stargazing is simply breathtaking at night. Besides, there is the opportunity to dance around the bonfire listening to Shatta Wale while sipping on dem juices/beers. As such, I do not recommend this venue to travellers looking for a zen retreat, but to youngsters on a shoestring budget that have always had the aspiration to to dance around a bonfire and look to chill in fishnet hammocks overlooking the river.
However, don't put up your hopes too high concerning the rooms/food. 28 in total, the huts have sand floors to enhance the beach experience, and its beds are covered with mosquito nets. The food takes hooouuurs to finish and is not that tasty, but what else do you expect from a low budget hangout?

It was so relaxing and nice. Bonfire on Saturdays, music on weekends and chill quiet time during the week. All the staff were friendly and made us feel at home. I recommend this place to everyone! Nice swimming and I fell asleep listening to the waves. Food is great and snacks are available from the locals who walk around with their products to sell on their heads. I will return for a longer time. Seriously, try it! You will not be disappointed!! I am already planning a return trip. I am from The United States.
September 14, 2018Maranatha beach camp is located on an estuary, providing a beautiful landscape with the ocean on one side and a clean calming river on the other. I lived on the... read more camp for 2 months as a volunteer at the Maranatha school in the neighbouring village.
The accommodations are simple and basic but comfortable. The food is provided in generous and good-tasting portions (although service was somewhat slow) and there's a fully functioning bar. The staff are extremely welcoming, always happy and do all they can to make sure you re comfortable and satisfied with your stay. They provide music and dancing around bonfires at night, as well as other social activities.
The camp is a well known as a tourist and/or holiday resort, where many Ghanian locals as well as tourists go during holidays or weekends.
If you're looking for a high-end or upscale resort, this shouldn't be your first choice. But for anyone travelling on a budget or wants to truly experience the Ghanian culture this is the place to go!
