CAMP & COMMUNITY SCHOOL
Welcome To Maranatha Beach Camp
...where the sea meets the river
Maranatha Beach Camp is located 2 hours east of Accra in the small town of Ada-Foah. We are on the Volta estuary in the small fishing community of Kewunor
Our camp is situated just metres from the sea on the banks of the Volta river. We have 30 rustic huts containing single or double beds with mosquito nets. We also have dorm rooms available for larger groups.
When you have arrived at the camp you can sit back and relax with a beer or soda, enjoy a meal at our restaurant which serves a variety of freshly cooked local food or take a swim in the Volta river which is clean and free of strong currents (we also have trained lifeguards on duty if you prefer a swim in the sea)
On Saturday nights you will find a bonfire and dancing, during the week it is quieter but there are board games to play or we sometimes show a movie at our restaurant.
If you prefer to explore we can arrange boat trips, excursions to the local markets and community tours around our village. Come between November and January and you may be lucky to see one of the 5 species of turtle who come visit us every year to lay their eggs on our beach.
If you want to stay longer you can take part in our volunteer programme. We have a variety of opportunities for you to help, either in our school or the local community.

We recently spent 6 weeks in Ghana My most memorable and enjoyable part of the trip was a 3 night stay in Maranatha Beach. I stayed in my own... read more private hut on the beach. It was so relaxing and nice. Bonfire on Saturdays, music on weekends and chill quiet time during the week. All the staff were friendly and made us feel at home. I recommend this place to everyone! Nice swimming and I fell asleep listening to the waves. Food is great and snacks are available from the locals who walk around with their products to sell on their heads. I will return for a longer time. Seriously, try it! You will not be disappointed!! I am already planning a return trip. I am from The United States.
September 14, 2018Take one village in a utopian setting; add a local enthusiast who wants to help his community; get 13 amazing locals to volunteer for room and board at most. Add... read more a number of bamboo huts, good food and great company in those volunteers, and you have the perfect makings of a great place to stay. All profits are put into the local school so kids no longer have to walk for 2 hours each way to study. The views are magical. The swimming divine. Go for it! The luxury is in the setting and the people.

Also there is some music to enjoy at the bar, or you can play volleyball or even swim. We'll come back for sure.

If I lived in Accra long term, I might be on this beach 2 weekends a month. Quiet, shaded, wonderful access to shallows, beers and fresh fruit on... read more demand, and an assortment of male and female oboronis and lively locals to mix it up. Boats to rent for an outing, and many good eating places up and down the river, with a rougher encounter with the ocean just up over the dune......its restful, unrushed, quite isolated, tolerant, friendly, and very definitely geared to adventurers, bohemians, families, and even couples who need a jump on their relationship.......that said, lodging is quite basic, toilet facilities are a bit primitive, and you might want to bring beverage and some food supplies for a two or three day trip ( anything less seems a bad use of commuting time from whereever you are coming from). Huts are private, but veddy, veddy basic. My advice is to make this your base, and do an elegant dinner 10 minutes up river at tsarley korpery, which is more upscale. Kids will remember this for years.
July 27, 2015I stayed at the resort for 5 nights and had a great time. The place is very simple, but you have everything you need and it's cheap. The food is... read more good (not that much choice for 6 days but most people stay for a weekend and then it is enough), the location between the ocean and the river is great and it is one of the few very clean places. On Saturdays they have a bonfire which is very cool.
I really enjoyed my stay and would recommend this place to everyone! It's like a little cheap paradise 😉

A gem, the Maranatha Beach resort is tucked away far from all other resorts in Ada Foah. As its beach boasts a pristine and serene atmosphere, this place is an... read more excellent way to blow off some steam from the fast-paced Accra. There is little access to electricity in the area, so the stargazing is simply breathtaking at night. Besides, there is the opportunity to dance around the bonfire listening to Shatta Wale while sipping on dem juices/beers. As such, I do not recommend this venue to travellers looking for a zen retreat, but to youngsters on a shoestring budget that have always had the aspiration to to dance around a bonfire and look to chill in fishnet hammocks overlooking the river.
However, don't put up your hopes too high concerning the rooms/food. 28 in total, the huts have sand floors to enhance the beach experience, and its beds are covered with mosquito nets. The food takes hooouuurs to finish and is not that tasty, but what else do you expect from a low budget hangout?
July 12, 2015Ada is roughly 2hrs from Accra and from ada to ada foah where most of the resorts are is 20 or less
You can catch a loading taxi from... read more Accra mall to Tema roundabout and a trotro from the roundabout to ada. From ada you take another loading taxi to the shores of ada foah where the maranatha boat will take you to the beauty that is maranatha beach camp. Make sure to call so that the boat will be made available. Boat ride is 5/10gh and cheaper than the other boat services
Maranatha is amazing! The water is 90% clean, the beach is clean. Tours can be organized if you would like and there are beach games to entertain you and bonfires on weekends . The food is pretty average. The staff is super friendly but service can be slow
The manager Alfred is awesome!
Room is very basic and affordable at 50ghc
You can camp with your tent for 25ghc
Food is mostly 15ghc and above More
February 13, 2019Maranatha beach camp is located on an estuary, providing a beautiful landscape with the ocean on one side and a clean calming river on the other. I lived on the... read more camp for 2 months as a volunteer at the Maranatha school in the neighbouring village.
The accommodations are simple and basic but comfortable. The food is provided in generous and good-tasting portions (although service was somewhat slow) and there's a fully functioning bar. The staff are extremely welcoming, always happy and do all they can to make sure you re comfortable and satisfied with your stay. They provide music and dancing around bonfires at night, as well as other social activities.
The camp is a well known as a tourist and/or holiday resort, where many Ghanian locals as well as tourists go during holidays or weekends.
If you're looking for a high-end or upscale resort, this shouldn't be your first choice. But for anyone travelling on a budget or wants to truly experience the Ghanian culture this is the place to go!
